Dramaworkshop is a weekly Stourbridge based drama school for young people aged (7-18) and adults (18-100) whose aim is to inspire and develop confidence, creativity and imagination. It is a place where people can come to have fun, make friends and learn about the art of performing. Our projects are diverse and exciting covering all mediums of drama enabling our members to gain experience in theatre, television, radio and film.

Although we are not a casting centre, due to Dramaworkshops contacts within the industry, there are opportunities for auditions and castings in television, theatre, film and radio. We have recently had members cast in lead roles in BBC’s ‘Line of Duty’ and ‘Doctors’.

Dramaworkshop gives invaluable training and life skills whatever direction and career path they choose to take. Drama enables people to express themselves articulately, improves self esteem and teaches the importance of teamwork.

Dramaworkshop gives children, young people and adults a safe, encouraging and creative environment to express themselves and helps them achieve their potential. It gives them opportunity

"Incredible place, with incredible people and amazing opportunities. The most talented, experienced and inspiring tutors. Honestly the reason why so many of the student go off and do bigger and better things, because of the immense support system. The transferable skills learnt like improvisation are helpful in industry and everyday life, for confidence building and social interaction. Overall a great learning atmosphere and platform for confidence building. Nothing but praise and gratitude."

             LINE OF DUTY SERIES 5

"I attended Dramaworkshop for four years before moving to London to formally train at a top drama school. Dramaworkshop gave me the confidence and the skills to get me to where I am now. During my time there, I formed close bonds with the staff and fellow work shoppers which allowed me to grow and develop in a safe and fun space. The progress I and others around me made in short spaces of time was always a delight to watch and be part of. I made friends for life, my confidence grew in social situations, and now I’m following my dream of becoming a professional Actor. I cannot thank Dramaworkshop enough!"

"Dramaworkshop is the best quality in drama training that any child or teenager will experience. The professionalism throughout is of the highest standard. This is all due to the founder Esther Stanford, her passion and drive is why drama workshop is so successful. She and her staff have years of experience working in theatre, directing and television to make this the top drama training for any young person interested in acting. I would highly recommend Esther and her team to any parent wanting to give their child the best start. Outstanding not only for performance but anyone struggling with self esteem issues."

Director and Workshop leader

Director and Workshop leader

After joining DramaWorkshop as students in their early teens, both Greg and Rebecca have gone on to gain a tremendous amount of experience within the industry, both on and off stage. Most recently Greg could be seen as Ryan Pilkington in BBC1's LINE OF DUTY (series 1 & 5) and Rebecca as Stacey in CH4's RAISED BY WOLVES. They both also have a huge amount of stage experience, both having toured the UK in various theatre shows and worked with BAFTA winning directors. They have also devised and delivered many Theatre in Education workshops, working closely with schools across the Black Country, and were National Theatre Ambassadors for the UK tour of Macbeth. Gregory won a Royal Television Award for Best Newcomer when he was 14 years old and is currently nominated for a BAFTA for 'TV Moment of the Year' for Series 5 of Line of Duty.

They have been Assistant Directors at DramaWorkshop for the past few years, since graduating in Drama from Dudley Evolve, and are very excited to be taking over as Directors as of 2020. As DramaWorkshop Alumni they have first hand experience of the wonderful training and opportunities it offers. They are very passionate about continuing to help children, just like they were, to achieve their potential and most importantly have lots of fun in a safe and supportive environment.

Assistant Director

Having trained at ITV WORKSHOP (alongside Esther Stanford) Tim went on to work as an actor for many years appearing on TV, in films and on stage. A former head of drama at Oldswinford Hospital School, Tim is the Principal of Pauline Quirke Academy Edgbaston. He is an exceptional director and really knows how to bring out an actor's performance. With 30 years of experience under his belt (like Esther, he started very young!) he is a huge asset to Dramaworkshop. Tim is the Workshop leader of our 18+ Adult Group where he focuses on career progression and the individual self-development of a performer.

Esther is a talented and passionate teacher who infuses her students with this same energy and allows them to experience a wide range of acting projects.
My son has not only developed practical skills, discipline, in both his acting and everyday life, but has also found a great role model and supporter in Esther.

Founder of DramaWorkshop

DramaWorkshop was founded in 2010 by Esther Stanford, a Mother of 2 and a professional actress/writer/director/producer with over 30 years of experience (she started very young!), who learned her craft at the renowned ITV/CENTRAL JUNIOR TELEVISION WORKSHOP.

Esther has a varied career as an actress working in all the different mediums. She's starred in TV series such as EASTENDERS, DOCTORS, HEARTBEAT, THE BILL and theatre performances at THE SWAN THEATRE, RSC and THE EDINBURGH FRINGE.

Recently Esther has had amazing success as a writer. Her play 'About Jack' was directed by BAFTA winning director Ian Smith and toured Birmingham (MAC), Nottingham and London (NEW DIORAMA), receiving rave reviews. As a screenwriter, she currently has 2 TV series in different stages of production and just shot her first short LEAP starring BAFTA nominated and RTS winning star of THE DUMPING GROUND, Kia Pegg.

Esther started DramaWorkshop to give back some of the wonderful experiences she had during her time at ITV Workshop and help children with a passion and interest in drama to achieve their potential and have fun developing their self confidence. During her 10 years of running DramaWorkshop, Esther has seen her students go on to do incredible things, both in and out of the performance industry, and is extremely proud of their achievements. After 10 years Esther has made the decision to step back and hand over the reigns to Rebecca and Gregory. This will allow Esther to focus on the exciting, upcoming career prospects she has, whilst leaving Workshop in trusting hands, allowing it to continue to grow.

Each term we award the "Maurice Martin Scholarship' to a young member (7-18) of Dramaworkshop we feel is deserving of recognition.

This award is given in memory of Esther's grandfather who had desperately wanted to act but who, due to circumstance, was unable to pursue his dream.

"When I joined Dramaworkshop, I was a shell of myself, totally shy and unconfident. But within a just a term of being there, I felt myself change for the better. Dramaworkshop is a fantastic place to help young people's confidence grow, whether that be in performance skills or as a person. It has endless fun games, improv sessions, and creative opportunities for young people to get involved in including filming, live performances and script work. The tutors at Workshop have all had experience within the acting and performing industry so offer great advice and directing, along with creating a great supportive environment that many students feel they can open up to. Dramaworkshop is also a great place to meet new people and make friends, I know I've found friends for life at Dramaworkshop, ones I now socialise with regularly.
I owe a lot of who I am to Dramaworkshop I enjoyed every minute of being there."
